Get the Look: Twisted Braids with Joana Neves
As featured in this season's Essential Looks collection, the Punk Spirit Salon Look showcases a cool blend of pastel colors and a modern take on school-girl braids.
Global Schwarzkopf Professional Color Ambassador Lesley Jennison (@lesleyjennison) used Chroma ID to create hand-painted, ice-cream pastel shades on a white blond base. After seeing the beautiful color result, Ambassador Joana Neves (@joananeves) decided that the best way to really showcase it was to style with an elevated braided technique.
Joana Neves shares her steps:
"We wanted to create something really different… color that's concealed and revealed through the braiding"
Step 1
- “To make the most of the pure white blond and pastel colors, we went for a really cool, extreme length”
Step 2
- “Three strand braids are easy to do at home and are the simplest way to show off beautiful colors”
Step 3
- “Working with 4 or 5 strands makes this a really interesting styling technique – every angle gives a 3D effect, and new perspective on the color”
Step 4
- “As the final color is a spectrum of hand-applied stripes, it looks really cool weaving intense pastels into immaculate braids”
Step 5
- “To get a really rounded result, twist and braid at the same time – and keep it immaculate from top to bottom”
Step 6
- “Use clear elastics to secure the braid (this keeps the focus on the color and 3D braid effect)… and remember! If you’re creating braids using 4 or 5 strands in the salon, it becomes a service”
To cleanse and care for the hair ahead of styling Joana used Oil Ultime Castor Seed Cleansing Oil; a mindful and relaxing experience that leaves the hair with a natural glow. After styling she held everything in place with OSiS+ Session Label Super Dry Flex, for long-lasting, workable perfection.
